Kevin Moran |
Vice Admiral J. Kevin Moran is a native of Huntington, Long Island,
N.Y. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1974 with
a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography/Physics.
Designated a Naval Aviator in September 1975 and trained in the
SH-2F Sea Sprite, Vice Adm. Moran’s operational sea tours
included LAMPS detachments in HSL-34 aboard USS Talbot (FFG-4),
USS Biddle (CG-34), and USS Brumby (FF-1044), ship’s company
aboard USS Guam (LPD-9), Operations Officer and the Officer-in-Charge
of HSL-34, Detachment Eight aboard USS John Hancock (DD-981) and
USS Vreeland (FF-1086). Additionally, he served as Executive Officer
of USS Inchon (LPH-12), and USS Boxer (LHD-4).
His command tours include Commanding Officer of Helicopter Antisubmarine
Squadron Light 44, flying the SH-60B; Commanding Officer of Boxer;
Commander, Navy Region Southeast; Commander, Amphibious Group Two;
and Commander, Naval Personnel Development Command.
Shore and staff assignments include Officer Programs Officer, Naval
Recruiting District Richmond, Va., and Aide de Camp/Flag Lieutenant
to Commander in Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe/Commander in
Chief, United States Naval Forces Europe in Naples, Italy. He is
a graduate of the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., where he earned
a Master of Arts degree in International Relations and Strategic
Studies. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program
at the Harvard School of Business.
Vice Adm. Moran's personal awards include the Legion of Merit (gold
star in lieu of fourth award), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal,
the Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of third award),
the Navy Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of second award),
and numerous unit commendations.
